Pakistan secure thrilling win, Bangladesh end campaign winless
Bangladesh succumbed to their fourth loss in four matches in the T20 tri-series, this time going down to Pakistan by seven wickets in Christchurch. Pakistan, because of this success, completed at standard with New Zealand on six points and will presently meet them in the final on Friday.
Match more or less
Bangladesh selected to bat and rode on half-centuries from Litton Das (69 off 42) and Shakib Al Hasan (68 off 42) to control Bangladesh to a decent 173/6. In the run-chase, Pakistan were set for one more great beginning, with Babar Azam (55 off 40) and Player-of-the-match Mohammad Rizwan (69 off 56) adding 101 for the first wicket but ended up chasing down the target only with a ball to spare.
Was it a better show from Bangladesh?
Indeed. "Assuming we had been informed we would get 173 toward the beginning of the innings, I would have taken it readily," Shakib said after the misfortune. but, that they set that target on a "tacky pitch" in the words of Mohammad Rizwan was a commendable effort and it was generally down to how they played in the middle overs, something that had been haunting them in the first three losses. On this occasion, Pakistan's openers were just too good.
That Litton-Shakib stand
It wasn't awesome of starts for Bangladesh as Naseem Shah made the new ball talk and, even accounted Soumya Sarkar's wicket in the third over. Najmul Hossain Shanto likewise tumbled to Mohammad Wasim Jr in the last over of the PowerPlay however a 88-run stands for the third wicket conveyed Bangladesh to a position of strength. The pair raised the 100 in the 12th over however with Litton leaving in the fifteenth over and Shakib in the nineteenth, the side missed the mark in the last two overs when they could add just 12 runs.
Pakistan's run chase was...
...familiar. It was once again set up by the opening duo but when Babar and Haider fell in the space of three balls in one Hasan Mahmud over, it came down to Rizwan to steer the ship home. It wasn't easy going for Pakistan against the old ball but Mohammad Nawaz's 45* off only 20 balls, which included 5 fours and a six, helped Rizwan breathe easy at the other end. Pakistan, though, will know that it got too tight for their comfort in the end and it should have been a more comfortable chase. They will have the opportunity to get that right in the final.
