New Zealand set for two tours to Pakistan

New Zealand will visit Pakistan two times over the space of about five months, the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed  on Monday (October 9). Accordingly, New Zealand will turn into the third high-profile team to visit Pakistan in recent times, following Australia and England.

In the main leg of the visit, the two groups will play two Tests and three ODIs. The two Tests are a part of the world Test Championship though the ODIs will fall under the Super League. The first Test will start on December 27 in Karachi and the second will be held in Multan from January 4. These two Tests will be New Zealand's first  in Pakistan since May 2002.

The two teams will again get back to Karachi for the three ODIs scheduled to be held on January 11, 13 and 15. With the Pakistan Super league set to be held from February 9 to March 19, New Zealand will return in April for the second leg. The teams will play four T20Is in Karachi on April 13, 15, 16 and 19 preceding moving to Lahore for the last T20I on April 23. Lahore will likewise have them for two ODIs on April 26 and 28 with the last three ODIs scheduled to be held on May 1, 4 and 7 in Rawalpindi.

The PCB also confirmed that the first leg of the tour is a part of the Future Tours Programme but the ten white-ball games in April-May next year are scheduled to make up for the abandoned tour in September 2021.

"New Zealand is one of the great performing sides and the more we will play against the top teams in our backyard, the better we will get as a unit, which is significant to our target of highlighting inside the main three across all formats," Zakir Khan, PCB Director - International Cricket said. "Three Tests against England followed by two Tests versus New Zealand north of about a month and a half will allow us an opportunity to reinforce our cases for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. The eight ODIs will assist us with getting ready for September's Asia Cup and October's 50-over ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023."
